This was said by the Lord, said by the Worthy One, so I heard:
“There is, almsmen, a not-born, a not-become, a not-made, a not-conditioned; otherwise no escape could be found from the born, become, made, conditioned. But since there is a not-born, a not-become, a not-made, a not-conditioned, therefore an escape is found from what is born, become, made, conditioned.”
The born, become, the arisen,
Made, conditioned and unstable,
Entangled with old age and death,
Nest of disease, decomposing,
Derived by chasing nourishment—
That is not fit to be pleased with.
The escape from that is peaceful,
Stable, out of reasoning's range:
The not-born, the not-arisen,
The state free from grief, unblemished,
The cessation of suffering,
The stilling of conditions—bliss.
